Fatherhood and Sonship Language

Why Do Christians Call God Father?

Christians call God Father because Jesus taught them to, and because Scripture reveals God as Father in two ways: He is the eternal Father of the Son, and He is the Father of all who come to Him through Jesus. Father does not mean biological fatherhood. It means a real, personal relationship.

What Does Father Mean in Christianity?

In Christianity, “Father” is a relational title for God, not a biological one. It describes two things: God’s eternal relationship with the Son within the one God, and God’s covenant relationship with those He adopts through Jesus. It never means God took a wife or produced a child.

Do Christians Believe God Has Children?

Yes — but not in a physical sense. Christians believe God has one eternal Son, Jesus, who is not created and not produced. They also believe that those who trust Jesus are adopted into God’s family as His children. God has no physical offspring. His “children” are either His eternal Son or His adopted people.
